Horizon Services Group History

Horizon Services Group (HSG) was formed in 2001 as a fully owned subsidiary of CSX Lines, LLC, which was part of CSX Corp., the publicly-traded U.S. transportation company. HSG represents the culmination of many years of logistics information technology development, initially within a $100M leading edge Sea-Land Service Inc. global transportation project and further developed within CSX Lines, following the acquisition of Sea-Land from CSX Corp. in 1999 by Maersk, the ocean shipping subsidiary of Danish conglomerate A.P. Moeller. CSX Lines was purchased by the Carlyle Group and Horizon Lines was born in early 2003. The strategic direction of HSG has remained a firm component of the long term IT and business strategy for both our parent and owner. HSG is part of Horizon Inc. the nation's leading Jones Act container shipping and logistics company, accounting for approximately 36% of the total U.S. marine container shipments between the continental U.S. and the three non-contiguous Jones Act markets of Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico, and to Guam. Horizon Lines is headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina.
