On May 19, 2011, Chenega Logistics participated in the 5th Annual Chenega Invitational at Old Hickory Golf Club in Woodbridge, Va., benefitting the Azalea Charities’ Aid for Wounded Warriors project as a Silver Sponsor.  With more than 143 participants and 36 teams, the event proved to be a great success, raising more than $46,000 through registration fees, raffle ticket sales, donations, sponsorships, a putting contest and a competitive silent auction.
Charity golf tournament sponsors and players
Some of the donated items included a Redskins football signed by the entire Redskins team, four tickets to a Kenny Chesney concert, art pieces varying from paintings to photographs, and handcrafted jewelry sets made specifically for this charitable event. Raffle prizes were also donated in the form of gift certificates, golf products, and special passes for a fun day of golf.
The growth of this tournament over the years has been overwhelming. In 2008, the Chenega Invitational hosted 80 players, raising $17,000, and in 2009, the Chenega Invitational hosted 98 players, raising $20,000 for charity. In 2010, we raised more than $35,000 and hosted 134 players. To have raised over $46,000 this year with a fully booked tournament of 143 players, as well as a waiting list just to play, is both incredible and heartwarming. The money collected this year will go towards the Aid for Wounded Warriors project, which aims to lift the spirits and enhance the morale of military men and women who have been injured in the line of duty. Half of the proceeds will also go to an adopted project by Azalea called “Home for a Hero” to build a specialized home for Wounded Warrior Jay Briseno and his parents. At the tournament, special guest Joe Briseno, Jay’s Father, expressed his deepest appreciation to Azalea and to Chenega for the support the donated funds will provide.
